- Description: CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) is a public assistance program. Provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have a child/children in the home. Helps students pursue their educational and occupational goals. View application page. The program staff and counselors: Provide support to students on the path to self-sufficiency Ensure students are receiving the county supportive services for which they are eligible Ensure students follow program guidelines Help students understand their rights and responsibilities as recipients of CalWORKsServices provided: Academic and personal counseling Work-study opportunities Help with textbooks and school supplies Help with attendance/progress report
