  • Description: Assists consumers with health care issues and ensures that managed care patients receive the medical care and services to which they are entitled. Grievance/Complaint Process: Before filing an Independent Medical Review (IMR)/Complaint with the DMHC, individuals are first required to File a Grievance/Complaint with Their Health Plan. If an individual's health problem is urgent, or if they already filed a complaint and are not satisfied with their health plan's decision, they can contact the Help Center at the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC). An urgent problem is a serious threat to someone's health. Consumers can also file a complaint if their HMO does not make a decision within 30 days.The Help Center can help with complaints and provide individuals with an Independent Medical Review (IMR) if they qualify.
