- Description: Volunteers are trained to provide emotional, practical, social, and spiritual support to patients receiving hospice care, and to their families and loved ones.Volunteer opportunities include: Patient and Family Support - Volunteers work in private homes and nursing homes by providing patients with companionship and a break to caregivers. Office Support - Assists in helping computer work, filing, and with mailings. Courier Support - Volunteers will pick up and deliver medications to patients. Thrift Store - Sort, price, tag, display merchandise, etc. Special Projects - Large mailing several times a year. Bereavement Support - Keep in touch with those who are grieving by making scheduled telephone calls. Also assist with support groups and the Children's Grief program. Pet Therapy - Volunteers and their animal partners are specially trained to work with patients to help foster a positive experience while increasing socialization and stress reduction. Veterans Helping Veterans - Assist with award ceremonies for veteran patients and their families. Offer emotional, practical, and social support one-on-one to fellow veterans.
