  • Description: Provides financial assistance for COVID-19 related funeral expenses collected after January 20, 2020. Program assists with expenses for funeral services, interment, or cremation. This funeral assistance is limited to a maximum financial amount of $9,000 per funeral and a maximum of $35,500 per application. Any receipts received for expenses that are not related to funeral services will not be determined eligible expenses. Expenses for funeral services, interment, or cremation typically include: Transportation for up to two individuals to identify the deceased individual Transfer of remains Casket or urn Burial plot or cremation niche Marker or headstone Clergy or officiant services Arrangement of the funeral ceremony Use of funeral home equipment or staff Cremation or interment costs Costs associated with producing and certifying multiple death certificates Additional expenses mandated by any applicable local or state government laws or ordinancesAn applicant may apply for multiple deceased individuals. If multiple individuals contribute toward funeral expenses, they must register under the same registration as the applicant and co-applicant, or the first applicant that submits all required documentation will be awarded the Funeral Assistance for the person's death. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will also consider documentation from other individuals not listed as the applicant and co-applicant who may have funeral expenses as part of the registration for the deceased individual. Applicants responsible for funeral expenses for multiple deaths may receive assistance under multiple registrations if the deaths occurred in different States and Territories.If eligible for funeral assistance, the applicant will receive a check by mail or funds by direct deposit, depending on which option is chosen during the application process.

  • Eligibility: - 18 years and older; Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) must be able to verify applicants identity; Applicant must be a United States citizen, non-citizen national, or a qualified alien who has funeral expenses after January 20, 2020; There is no requirement for the deceased person to have been a United States citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien; Death certificate must indicate the death "may have been caused by" or "was likely the result of" COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms; The death must have occurred in the United States, including the United States territories and the District of Columbia; Funeral expenses must not be covered by other sources (funeral or burial insurance, financial assistance from voluntary agencies, applicable government programs/agencies, or other entities); No other applicant received Funeral Assistance funds for the same decedent
  • Requirements: An official death certificate that attributes the death directly or indirectly to COVID-19 and shows that the death occurred in the United States, including territories and the District of Columbia; Funeral expenses documents (receipts, funeral home contract, etc.) that includes applicant's name indicated as the responsible party for the expenses, the deceased person's name, the amount of funeral expenses, and the dates the funeral expenses were collected; Proof of funds received from other sources for use toward funeral costs; Applicant must provide documentation if the deceased person had insurance covering funeral costs and/or any form of Funeral Assistance was received from voluntary agencies, government agencies (state, tribal or other federal programs that pay for funeral or burial assistance, etc.)
