Court employees are available to assist, but do not give legal advice.Small claims court is a special court that aims to resolve disputes in a shorter amount of time. The rules are simple and informal. One may ask a lawyer for advice before going to court but cannot have a lawyer in court. The Small Claims Advisor is available to answer questions over the phone. Offers information about small claims and child support matters. One may call and leave a message at any time. Calls are generally returned Mondays 3:30-5:30pm.Family Court Services (FCS) provides mediation. This is in family law cases when parents cannot agree on a child custody sharing plan. Provides mediation in a private counseling office. Helps parents work together toward an agreement in the best interest of the children.
