• Description: Provides a program that helps prevent power interruptions by having customers reduce their energy during hours when it's most in demand and offers financial incentives to PG&E customers who enroll. The SmartAC program contains two components, SmartAC Switch and SmartAC Thermostat. In the SmartAC Switch component, PG&E may remotely activate SmartAC switches and cycle the AC on and off in 15 minute increments in order to help maintain adequate power supplies and avoid power interruptions. Incentives for customers who enroll in the SmartAC Switch component of the program include a $50 check and free technician support of their air conditioning system as long as they are a participant in the program. In the SmartAC Thermostat component, PG&E may adjust the customer’s thermostat schedule so that their AC uses less energy during the most high-demand hours. Incentives for customers who enroll in the SmartAC Thermostat include a $75 virtual prepaid card or $120 off a new smart thermostat at PG&E’s SmartAC store (pgesmartacstore.com), and an additional $25 for each summer they participate in the program through 2023.

• Eligibility: Must meet the following to enroll for SmartAC Switch: - Be a PG&E electricity customer. - Have a central air conditioning unit or heat pump in suitable operating condition. - Single-stage central AC units must generally operate during PG&E summer peak periods (approximately 5pm-8pm). - Be the homeowner or have the homeowner's written permission to participate in SmartAC (renters must have your homeowner or property manager's permission to install SmartAC). - Not be on PG&E's Medical Baseline program, or be a participant on another energy incentive program. - Homes with window units, wall units or evaporative coolers do not qualify. Must meet the following to enroll for SmartAC Thermostat: - Be a PG&E electricity customer. - Have a Wi-Fi network that is always on. - Have a central air conditioner connected to an eligible smart thermostat. - Not be enrolled in another PG&E or third-party energy incentive program. - There is a limit of one enrollment reward per household.
