- Description: Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) are a new safety setting implemented to reduce wildfire risk and may result in unplanned power outages. PG&E powerlines with the setting will automatically turn off power within one-tenth of a second when there is a hazard detected, like a tree branch falling into a line. These settings will be enabled when elevated wildfire risks are present and will result in power outages when hazards are detected. PG&E will not be able to provide advance notification of power outages that are a result of EPSS since they are unplanned and automatically triggered when a hazard is detected. During EPSS outages, PG&E will provide timely notifications and updates about when the power will be back on.
