  • Description: Offers information, training, and planning services to assist those with disabilities live as independently as possible. Program advocates work with individuals to create a specific independent living plan and provide independent living skills training based on client needs. Skills training classes can include self-care, money management, stress management, goal setting, decision making, and care-provider management. Program advocates also offer support in searching for housing and application assistance. All services offered through the IL program are designed to improve and/or maintain the participants' ability to live as independently as possible in the community.

  • Eligibility: Individuals with disabilities. The Disability Action Center defines 'Disability' as an umbrella term covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. This definition encompasses mental disorders (psychiatric or psychosocial) and various types of chronic diseases.
