  • Description: Offers a tax credit that will give low or moderate income individuals who qualify a refund or reduce their amount of taxes owed by up to $1000. The Young Child Tax Credit amount received will vary depending on the individual taxpayer’s filing status, income, and number of qualifying children.

  • Eligibility: Must qualify for the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and have a child under the age of 6 at the end of the tax year. The CalEITC eligibility is as follows: An individual may be eligible for the CalEITC if they have taxable earned income within certain limits (see chart below), AND have a valid social security number (SSN) AND they lived in California for more than half the tax year. The individual must be at least 18 years of age OR have a qualifying child. If married, the individual, their spouse, and any qualifying children must each have a social security number (SSN), AND they do not use the “married/RDP filing separate” filing status in addition to the criteria above. 2019 Annual Income Limits (filing in 2020): No Children: $30,000/year (maximum CalEITC allotment $240) 1 child: $30,000/year (maximum CalEITC allotment $1,605) 2 children: $30,000/year (maximum CalEITC allotment $2,651) 3 or more: $30,000/year (maximum CalEITC allotment $2,982) A qualifying child must meet the following criteria: -They must be the taxpayer’s child or stepchild (whether by blood or adoption), foster child, sibling or step sibling, grandchild, niece, or nephew.. -They must have the same residence as the taxpayer in California for more than half the tax year. Certain exceptions apply. -They must be younger than the taxpayer AND either under the age of 19 at the end of the tax year, OR under the age of 24 if they are a full-time student for at least 5 months of the year. A permanently and totally disabled child may be included at any age. -Have a social security number (SSN)
