• Description: Offers Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) a program designed to have citizen volunteers perform routine police functions to help the department provide quality law enforcement service in our community. VIPS are trained and also assist in taking police reports, conducting front counter services, surveillance in problem areas, pre-party contacts, community patrol, and numerous other duties. Members will be required to volunteer a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per quarter (three month period) to the organization.

• Eligibility: Volunteers in Police Service must be graduates of the Chico Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy. VIPS must be 18 years of age, possess education equivalent to a high school diploma, and pass a background investigation. Applicants will be finger printed to check for criminal history. Volunteers will be screened as to judgment, maturity, and ability to work within the team concept.
