  • Description: Note:The Talking Books & Braille Center (TBBC) will be closed for a major renovation starting Monday, August 15th, 2022. We anticipate that the renovation will take 6-9 months, but we do not have a set reopening date. TBBC staff will be onsite providing services over the phone, through the mail, and virtually. The service model will be much like what was provided during the library's covid closure. Additionally, some adaptive technology equipment will be available to patrons during closure.

    The library is notifying TBBC patrons in advance in a multitude of ways. TBBC staff is individually calling patrons. Emails will be sent out. The website will be updated and include the FAQs. There will be recorded messages for patrons in the emails and on the website. The text and message will be trilingual - English, Spanish and Chinese.


    Provides a collection of more than 100,000 digital "talking book" titles. A special player needed to listen to them. The books can be mail for free. To San Francisco residents who have difficulty reading standard print. Collections and services available

San Francisco residents who have a disability or long-term medical condition that prevents you from visiting the library may use Home Library Services. . Educators living or working in SF may apply for a Teacher Card. . SFPL also offers Welcome, Digital Access, and Visitor cards for those who don't have CA ID. Visitor cards cost $10 and are valid for 3 months.
