  • Description: The CalFresh Program, formerly known as Food Stamps and federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table. Supplemental Security Income (SSI/SSP) recipients may be eligible to receive CalFresh benefits effective 6/1/2019.CalFresh issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy most foods in many markets, farmers' markets and food stores. Certain farmers markets that accept the EBT card will match dollar to dollar (some up to $20.00) towards fresh produce. To report a lost EBT card call 877-328-9677 or for online access to EBT card balance information visit the California Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Client Website.Use the EBT Client website to find a list of surcharge-free ATM locations or other stores where you can use your EBT card.Address Change Reporting Procedure: As of April 1, 2023, when a CalFresh customer reports an address change to the county, the county will encourage them to submit updated shelter costs. If updated shelter costs are reported, the county will act upon the new information. If costs are not reported, no changes will be made and the county will follow up at the next SAR or recertification, whichever comes first. Waiver Extensions Initial Application and Recertification Interview Waiver The waiver of the initial application and recertification interview has been extended until March 31, 2024. County Welfare Departments (CWD) must follow additional procedures relating to simplified reporting and work requirements, even if the interview is waived, starting April 1, 2023, or upon completion of automation, if applicable: Send a written explanation of simplified reporting to all households. Provide an oral explanation of the work requirements if the CWD contacts the household or if a household member is subject to mandatory employment and training (E&T). Send the consolidated written notice to all households subject to the general work requirements, the Able-Bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWD) work requirements, and mandatory E&T. Screen all households subject to the general work requirements for exemptions from work requirements and ABAWD time limit, which includes referring individuals to CalFresh E&T if appropriate. Telephonic Signature Waiver The waiver of the recording requirement for telephonic signatures for both initial application and recertification (if certain criteria are met) has been extended until March 31, 2024.
